Umesh Kapil

Dr.Umesh Kapil Professor, Public Health Nutrition All India Institute of Medical sciences, New Delhi , India. Dr. Kapil trained in Public Health Nutrition and epidemiology; he is a national and international leader in the field of Public Health Nutrition. Prof. Kapil has been involved in several major national research studies. He has been a researcher, teacher, policy enabler, advocate and activist who has worked to promote Public Health Nutrition, specially in the field of prevention of micronutrient deficiencies across the lifespan. Prof. Kapil has worked with, and in many committees, advisory, and consultancy positions, and several national governmental, and UN agencies.: Indian Council of Medical Research; Ministry of Health and Family Welfare; Ministry of Industries; UNICEF; WHO; USAID; MOST; and, the Agha Khan Foundation. His contributions to Public Health Nutrition have been recognized through several awards and honours. They include the B.C. Srivastava Indian Council of Medical research (ICMR) National Award (1992), M.K. Seshadri ICMR National Award (1996), P.N. Raju ICMR National Award (2002), Hargovind National Award of IAP (2009), Senior Scientist Award from the Nutrition Society of India (1992.) He was elected as Fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (2003) and the Indian Public Health Association (1993), received a Conferred Fellowship from the Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine (1998), and was elected President of the Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine (2011).
