María Clara Restrepo Méndez

Pic MCMaría Clara Restrepo Méndez, PhD (Interest Group Representative: Early Career Epidemiologists, 2014-2017), completed her MSc (2008) and PhD (2012) in Epidemiology at the Departamento de Medicina Social, Universidade Federal de Pelotas (UFPel) in Brazil. Her doctoral thesis earned her the ‘CAPES Thesis Award 2013’ for the best doctoral theses in Public Health in Brazil.

Dr. Restrepo’s research focuses on understanding disparities in maternal, newborn and child health, as well as the short- and long-term effect of early exposures to risk factors and differential maternal age on offspring health outcomes.

In 2012, Dr. Restrepo joined the International Center for Equity in Health at UFPel as a post-doctoral research fellow and the International Epidemiological Association as the Early Career Counselor for the Latin America & Caribbean region.
