The WCE 2027 theme —“Rethinking Epidemiology for a Changing World: Data, Science, Equity, and Action”—summarizes a vision of epidemiology as a tool for understanding and transforming reality. As expressed by Beatriz Caicedo, Chair of WCE2027: “Data without science is noise. Science without equity is privilege. And equity without action is a broken promise.” She further noted that: “At a time when the world faces difficulties in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, epidemiology offers essential tools to understand problems, identify solutions, and evaluate the impact of public decisions.”
The WCE 2027 scientific program is currently being developed with the participation of 46 international experts who make up the Scientific Committee. It will address plenary topics such as:
- Epidemiology in Latin America: Advances in equity and global collaborations
- Artificial intelligence in epidemiology: Applications for research and public health decision-making
- Life-course epidemiology in ageing societies: Understanding longevity and population change
- Implementation science: From evidence to action
- Causal inference in epidemiology: Advances and challenges
- From epistemologies to evidence: Rethinking how epidemiology produces actionable knowledge
A Space to Build the Future of Epidemiology
The website https://wcepidemiology.org/ is the congress’s central hub for information and participation. It will host calls for scientific abstracts and academic sessions, registration processes for participants and speakers, and provide resources, news, and updates regarding the organization of the event, it will also become an open repository of knowledge and scientific memory that will help extend the impact of the congress beyond its dates. During WCE 2027, Medellín and Colombia will open their doors to a global conversation on how data, science, equity, and action can contribute to protecting the health of present and future generations.
